Celebrity Twitter auction raises money for Haiti

SAN FRANCISCO — A first-ever Celebrity Twitter Auction raising money for special needs children in Haiti lets winning bidders become buddies with stars at the hot microblogging service.
The auction taking place online at ebay.com/twitchange offers chances for people, or companies seeking promotion, to have stars follow them on Twitter, "retweet" their messages at the service, and mention them to followers.

"A tweet is kind of a modern day autograph but you get more perks," read a message at the TwitChange website on Tuesday.
Actress Eva Longoria of the US television series "Desperate Housewives" teamed with twitchange.com and aHomeInHaiti.org to coax celebrities into donating access to their Twitter worlds in the name of charity.

The auction ends on September 25 and proceeds will be used to finish rebuilding a center in Haiti for children with autism, cerebral palsy, or other challenges.

Dana White, president of Ultimate Fighting Championship mixed martial arts group in the United States, had attracted the highest bid as of Tuesday with someone offering 15,600 dollars for his Twitter time and attention.

Actor Zachary Levi who stars in a "Chuck" television series about a computer whiz caught up in comedic spy action was the second most coveted Twitter pal, bidding at 14,900 dollars.
Bids ranged into the low hundreds of dollars, with bargains below 100 dollars scarce on Tuesday.
